Merry x-mas yarn bomb

Merry X-mas to all who celebrate it.
For everyone else, there is yarn bombing.

This year, I decided to ramp up my yule pole from last year.
I added a sign this year.

To the North pole everyone! It's a lot closer this year!

Just down the street in fact!

My niece came with me. She really enjoyed the North Pole yarn bomb.

I must admit however that it was rather hacked together at the last moment. I really wanted to do an x-mas yarn bomb, but spent most of the holidays very sick. Anyway, I did manage to do it!

I hope everyone likes it and had a happy holiday!

Impromptu yarn bombing

One day, I was heading to the mall.
Couldn't have been much more than two weeks ago, maybe early December, later November time.
It was raining at the time, and I really just wanted to get into the mall and grab a tea. I don't think I was having a particularly good day.
When suddenly, I happen upon an abandoned knit item.
Now, I didn't think it was a scarf. It may have wanted to start it's life out as a scarf, but it still had stingy ends hanging at either end; I'm not even sure one end was even tied off. It simply looked like someone's work-in-progress had fallen out of their bag.
So I recovered the piece from where it had fallen in the dirty, wet grass, and placed it on an empty pole in front of a parking space. The pole too must have had a greater purpose once upon a time. Perhaps it was handicapped parking, or marked off small cars only.
Either way, the two of them joined together to make a lovely impromptu yarn bomb.
I hope they made each other very happy.
I know they made my day a whole lot better.
I realized that I haven't been doing as much yarn bombing this year as I have in previous ones. Here's hoping that for 2012, I get back in the swing of things and bring you all some amazing yarn bombs.
With that in mind,
Do you remember the 21 days of yarnbombing last November?
Well, that spider from Day 3 is STILL UP!
Oh yeah! 13 months and counting!
Of course, it has clearly seen better days...
: )

Woolley Poles Contribution

So the Woolley Poles was a success!

On November 17th, my coral reef piece was put up on a pole in Auckland, New Zealand.
I gotta say, I was in suspense about this one for a long while.
But it turned out amazing!
Here it is up on the pole with the other red pieces. There was a kind of rainbow theme as the undercurrent. I really liked that part.
Here you can see the rest of the pole that it was apart of as well. I like to think it's rather predominant. It was so much fun to make.
And here is the card attached to one of the poles describing the event.
You can check out more pictures on the Facebook page for Woollypoles or Knitty Graffity's page soon hopefully.

I hope I can do more of these events in the future. There is something amazing about sending my art all over the world.

Happy Halloween!

I tell you, I had no idea that school was gonna take up so much of what used to be my crochet and general craft time. But it has.
So i am sad to say that this is all you get for a Halloween yarnbomb.

Yep. One sad lone pumpkin on a cyclo.
I was so busy organizing my learn to crochet night (and I got sick) that Halloween yarnbombing totally got missed.
But I did make a ton of cute pumpkins for my friends and loved ones.

And got to carve an adorable mini pumpkin that I won at Oldfield orchards.
All in all it was a great Halloween, even if I didn't really get to yarnbomb. It was still very crafty.
Cheers!

Let's Crochet! learning to crochet with Spencer Diamond at Sarah's Place!

I don't know how many of you know Sarah Kramer, but if you're vegan, I imagine you have heard of her.
I ran into her at her adorable little vegan curio shop downtown after my gf's family had bought her vegan chocolate bars from there. Needless to say, those Jokerz have become an addiction.

You may remember Sarah from my posts where I give her stuff, like the Sarah doll or the crochet coral reef. This is because she is a wonderful person and deserves cute things.

The reason for this post isn't to tell you how awesome Sarah is (tho she is!). It's to tell you that in her awesomeness, she has helped me arrange a learn to crochet night!
That's right! For 4 dates through to the end of the year, I will be teaching crochet and how to's on little patterns I have made.

The first night is this Thursday, October 25th, 6-8 pm at Sarah's Place in Market Square.
It should be a blast! I am really looking forward to spreading around my craft and teaching some real post apocalyptic survival skills (that's what I call crochet sometimes).

Cheers!

Long time no crochet

You know, I have still been crocheting.
I just recently finished the piece that is going to WoollyPoles in New Zealand.
I am always super excited to be apart of projects like this one. I feel like one little cog in a great yarn bombing machine.
(I apologize for photo quality. I really need to stop using my ipod...I don't even know the resolution!)

I decided to go with coral reef because I have become obsessed with it (as I have mentioned before). I decided to go with something I hadn't tried before.

I sewed a seaweed type crochet piece into the background before adding the coral. Oh wow did it work out well! I love when I can impress myself with my work.

I mailed it off this week, so soon it shall go to live in its new home in New Zealand! This whole project has been great. be sure to check out other yarn bombers progress here!

Midnight yarn bombing

Hello everyone!
I'm moving! -laughs- In the physical world, I am in the process of packing up all my lovely yarn.
And that means going through all of my creations.
Yet again I had enough failed dead end projects to make a scrap blanket.

(also forgive all these terrible photos. I forgot my camera and had to rely on ipod. However my friend took better photos with her phone, so perhaps I will do another entry with those photos as well when I get my hands on them)
So I called up a couple friends and was like, we seriously need to do a huge yarnbombing night because I have a bunch of things that need to end up yarnbombed.
I also still had the left over pieces that got saved from the Space Invaders project. The solar system needed to be rebombed somewhere.

Funny story about the solar system. When I unpacked it all, it seemed I was missing two planets (minus Pluto  because it's not really a planet anyway). One of my yarnbombing cohorts, Brandy, said we couldn't go bomb it with missing planets. So we banged out two more planets while playing apples to apples and then went and yarn bombed.

I few people talked at us while we bombed. Most of them intoxicated that late on a Saturday night. Some questioned what we are doing, others made comments of approval, and of course, some looked at us like we all had several eyes and at least another head.

Everyone helped out and it ran waaaaaaaaay more smoothly than the first time it was installed.
Then we took the left over space invaders sleeves and the scrap blanket and went and decorated some trees near the space invaders bomb.

Brandy climbed a tree to get sleeves on the branches, after I wrapped the scrap blanket around the base.

Danika wandered off and put some of the sleeves on lower branches of another tree.

And Shanetlle and I took pictures. While Arianne enjoyed the experience, having never been apart of something like yarn bombing.
Anyway, I had an amazing night with friends and yarn bombing. I hope to get my hands on some of the better photos. I will do another post when I get my hands on those photos.
Enjoy!

Woollypoles beginning

Hey everyone!

Have you heard about Woollypoles? Brought to you by the same wonderful creator of the woolly walk along.
Anyway, I am helping out and have already started working on my contribution piece.

I'm hoping to embellish it tons, make it really sea-ish.
Lot's of other people's works are looking really good too! I cannot wait for this. Joined events like this are crazy for anticipation with me.
Stay tuned for more news from the woollypoles!
Check here to read more about it and see how everyone's work is coming along.

Fibrations 2012

I'm tired everyone.
I walked around the Fibrations festival for a few hours today. I ran into a lot of people I haven't seen for a long time and in some cases, not since last year.
Anyway, the first amazing thing that happened was that I went over to the demo booth, and who should be displaying there but Nerdigurumi! Ever since I found their site through looking for a Bioshock Big Daddy pattern, I have visited it often to see what other new awesome patterns they will create (they also have an amazing Prince from Katamari that I have posted on my Katamari tumblr!) So you can imagine what it was liking meeting the actual creator behind these amazing creations.

After that wonderful experience, I ran across the Knotty by Nature table and talked with owner Ryan. We discussed hand spinning. I would love to get into it, but first I wanna tackle felting.
There were a lot of tables focusing on felting.

Then I wandered around the festival looking for my friend Dela. I met Dela last year at the festival. She was teaching the Tunisian crochet demo. To celebrate the fact that I have known Dela for a whole year, I made her a wall crochet coral reef.

I love making these things. Thankfully, they are as well recieved by the people that I make them for. Dela loved her reef. And she gave me a small tuniscian crochet hook too!
Dela is such a wonderful woman.

After a while, I met up with my friends and we visited a bunch more booths and learned more about fibre and fibre arts. Also, since it was in an orchard, we snagged a bunch of apples so I can make pie.

I did two yarn bombs while I was at the festival as well.
The first, before I actually got to the festival, but was on St. Ann's Academy grounds, I threw up into a tree. It was the rainbow bolas that I made ages ago!

Finally put it up. I meant to do it for Pride this year, but I was deathly ill, so that didn't happen. Instead, it made it's way into this tree today!

Second one was just after my friends and I left the festival. We were at a stop light waiting for it to change and my friend Brandy suggested I throw it into the tree above us. It worked out sorta well.

Not exactly where I wanted, but bolas never do go where I want them.

Either way, I had a crazy great day! Fibrations 2012 was an amazing success.

Monkey madness!

So my good friend Michelle was trying to entertain me today. Her suggestion was to make a speed yarnbomb. And then some how the idea of monkeys got suggested for the monkey bars at a local playground.
So in a quickly 2 and a half hours, I produced this monkey.

And now we are off to bomb said monkey to the playground monkey bars!
I will write more when I return!
***
I have returned!
And I had a really great time! I forget sometimes how much I love playgrounds at night. So different than when it's day out.
Here is my monkey hanging out on the monkey bars.

And Michelle's Orangutan on the monkey bars!

These are our super speedy yarn bomb monkeys.
I am so lucky to have supportive friend who want to encourage me and participate with me in yarn bombing!
I hope you like the monkey madness!

Thoughts on Coral

So I'll admit.
I haven't been all that focused on yarnbombing lately.
After International Yarnbombing day at the beginning of summer, I kind of trailed off dramatically. But do not dispair! I have sti;ll been crocheting.
Truth is, I have been focusing on more personal projects.
I have been working on a crochet suit of armor, a Link (from legend of Zelda) costume (with sword and shield), and my personal favorite, wall coral reef.

Here is the original one the I did for a friend of mine. She wanted something to remind her of her time in Thailand and in colors of her wedding (trip to Thailand was the honeymoon), green and pink.
So I made this!

I had so much fun doing it and it seems to be popular, I want to try making small ones (this one is a foot around, so kind of like a pizza!) because wee crochet is always cute.
Anyway, I hope you think crochet coral reef is as cool as I do!

Forgetful and Knit Corsham

Hey everybody!
... sorry. It has been a really busy two months personally. I haven't even really had a chance to crochet, let alone do any yarn bombs.
But! I am going to Vancouver over the weekend, so hopefully that will give me a chance to get some yarn bombing done there! I just love tagging in other cities.

And to do a brief catchup, does anyone remember when I was talking about Knit Corsham? It was around international yarnbombing day (I believe the event coincided, but went on for more days than just IYBD). Anyway, I never did show everyone what my piece that I sent them looked like.

See, I mailed this lovely coral reef bike rack cover all the way to the UK! I love doing yarn bombs around the world, because it is something that I have worked hard on being seen in a part of the world I have never been! (ok, I have been to Scotland and England, but I was very wee and obviously do not remember any of it) Apparently it was well received. That always makes me happy.

There were tons of pieces for the Knit Corsham festival. I suggest you google it or check out the various yarn forums if you wanna take a look at all the pictures.

It was so much fun. I keep thinking about organizing some sort of gran event where I ask for donations from people in the form of bombs, but I don't have the time between work and school. Hopefully some day I can! In the mean time, participating in events like this one are marvelous. Thanks goes out to Sandie Roach who got me involved in the project and special thanks to everyone who made the project happen.

International yarn bombing day 2012

Whew.

I don't know about any of you, but installing the largest yarn bomb I have ever done, was a lot of work.
Today, I set out to complete the best International Yarnbomb that I could think of.
I had a picnic!

And set up my picnic yarn bomb.

With yarn food and yarn drinks, my friends and I added real food and real drinks and had a wonderful picnic.
There was even boccie ball!
I installed vines of flowers around the gazebo the picnic table was under.

And in addition to the whole picnic spread, I yarn bombed two of the empty poles up by the road.

Some of you may recall this location from the Knotty by Nature yarn bomb, from their grand opening. It is part of why I came back to this location for International yarn bombing day. They are such a great crew over there.

Here is a picture of Brandy installing one of them. I wasn't tall enough to get it up there. I am so glad I have awesome friends!

And here's Brandy installing the other.

To top it off, I added one little mushroom, alone in the grass beside our picnic.
I had so much fun! So many people came by and told me they loved it. Some even said I was an inspiration. My insides melted with that. This is why I yarn bomb. Because it genuinely makes people happy, interested, excited; all these positive wonderful emotions.

I hope you all have had a wonderful International Yarnbombing Day! And if you haven't had a chance yet, go out and yarn bomb something!
